Foreign Minister and International Delegation Discuss Cooperation in Humanitarian Aid Field - Rawan
The
Foreign Minister, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, Sunday received the chairman
of United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs,
John Ging, who arrived in Khartoum heading a delegation of donors.
The
minister has expressed Sudan thanks to the international organization
and the donor countries for the assistance that they offer to the
refugees, displaced people and the needy at the conflict-hit areas.
He explained that the role of the Foreign Ministry is concentrated on the coordination with the concerned circles.
In
a press statement after the meeting, the spokesman of the Foreign
Ministry, Ambassador Ali Al-Saddiq, said that the Foreign Minister
informed the delegation that Sudan is hosting around million refugees
from South Sudan and 60,000 refugees from Syria.
He
said that the Foreign Minister has referred to the vaccination campaign
in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas, adding that Prof. Ghandour
has affirmed the government commitment to implementation of the
tripartite agreement for delivering humanitarian aid, which was rejected
by the other party.
Ambassador
Al-Saddiq said that the minister has affirmed Sudan agreement on
transportation of aid to the areas of the Blue Nile and South Kordofan,
provided that the planes shall not carry out weapons upon arrival and
also shall not carry out weapons upon departure.
He
said that the Foreign Minister informed the delegation that the issues
of the economic sanctions and external debts are impeding the role of
Sudan.
He
said that the minister also informed the delegation about Sudan
readiness to realize self-sufficiency for its citizens and the people of
neighboring countries as soon as the sanctions imposed on it are lifted
and its debts are written off.
Meanwhile,
head of the delegation said that their visit is aimed for reaching
understandings with the government on the humanitarian aid, referring to
the cooperation of the government in this regard.
