Al Bashir to Address UNCTAD Conference Tomorrow - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production
President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al Bashir is due to
address the UNCTAD Conference Oil, Gas and Mining, which is to be hosted
by Sudan. It has been organised by the United Nations and will last
from the 23rd to the 26th November, beginning on Monday.
The
Minister of Petroleum and Gas, Dr. Mohamed Zayid Awad, described the
conference as an opportunity for workers in the oil, gas and mining
sectors to meet and exchange views and experiences with each other. He
called for the facing up to challenges of training after creating jobs,
expressing Sudan’s happiness in hosting the most important conference
organised by the United Nations on the African continent.
The
Minister of Petroleum and Gas who is Co-Chairman of the Conference
added that Sudan, with its fifty year expertise in the field of oil and
minerals, is fully qualified to host the conference which will achieve
several technical, investment and political gains for Sudan. He stressed
that all relevant preparations have been completed.
Meanwhile,
the Director General of the Geological Research Corporation and
Chairman of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference, Dr. Yousuf
Al-Sammani, affirmed the conference will be held under the auspices of
the President of the Republic and participation of 8 federal ministries
under the slogan, "Creation of Continuous Jobs in the Field of
Extractive Industries.”
He
revealed that 55 working papers were ready and would be presented by a
number of experts at the conference. They will cover investment, finance
and job creation, Arab-African relations, legislation, tightening of
controls, participation of women and the development of traditional
mining as well as displaying state potential oil, gas and mining.
Dr.
Al-Sammani explained that the programme accompanying the conference
includes a visit to a Khartoum refinery, gold refinery and the Museum of
Sudan, as well as an exhibition for the exchange of experiences among
participating countries and the capabilities of the country.
