Health Minister Discloses Difficulties of Health Work, Demands more Funds - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production
Federal
Minister of Health Bahar Idris Abu Garda, who met the President, said
the meeting reviewed the level of medical services and the requisites of
the forthcoming period.
Abu
Garda conveyed to the President the considerable improvement in the
medical services during the past period particularly with regards to the
comprehensive coverage of citizens with medical services.
He
said upon the beginning of the 2012 strategy nearly 14% of the
population have no health coverage noting that the size of the coverage
today have reached 93% of Sudan’s population covered with health
services in terms of geographical location This is along with the
package of the health services presented at the beginning of the
strategy which was 14% now it stood at 60%
He
noted that the coverage of villages with midwives at the beginning of
the strategy was nearly 36% whereas now it reached 72% stressing that
this a very important issues particularly with regards to reducing
mothers and children mortality and the registration of child births.
He
further disclosed the distribution of specialists Doctors with regards
to sub-specializations has risen whereby it reached 13 states out of a
total of 18 states in the country which was previously with regards to
the same specializations restricted to the states Khartoum and Gezira.
The
Minister of Health has elaborated that his meeting with the President
has discussed the program of training the medical cadres along with
other issues.
The
Minister outlined the challenges facing his Ministry which require
increase of spending describing spending on health as minor and below
the required, noting that the percentage of spending on health as
compared to the Gross Domestic Product stands at 2.4% and the
percentage of the overall spending on health compared to governmental
spending is 6%.
He
noted that in the Abuja Declaration agreement which was signed by all
the presidents has specified that spending on health should reach 15%.
He
noted that the President of the Republic has directed employing medium
cadres noting that these cadres were not appointed in permanent jobs and
this is one of the challenges, noting that his Ministry has prepared a
full concept in this regards to the President of the Republic during the
forthcoming period via the Cabinet containing employment all the medium
level cadres particularly the midwives including spray workers in the
jobs of combating mosquito’s.
Regarding
the health condition in West Darfur state in the aftermath of the
spread of fevers there the Minister outline that it shrank after the
rapid intervention for containing the situation
He
said it shrank in the locality of Kireimit in west Darfur particularly
after detecting the dengue fever stressing that his Ministry will
intervene again for preventing any epidemics because it has qualified
cades.
