Judiciary Supports Anti-Corruption Campaign - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production
The
Workshop was organised by the Training, Scientific Research and Foreign
Relations Unit in the Faculty of Law at the University of Khartoum, in
partnership with the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).
The
Dean of the Faculty of Law Dr. Al Tayeb Murkaz Ali addressed the
participants, stating the workshop aims to raise legal awareness and
support for the efforts of the National Assembly, the Ministry of
Justice and other concerned institutions to create an effective law to
combat corruption, which has become of grave concern to all.
The
UNDP partnership with the government, academic institutions and civil
society aims to combat internationally concerning corruption which
requires the cooperation of all stakeholders, the UNDP representative
Abdel Rahman Ghandour believes.
He
added the 9th of December is the designated day to mobilise
international resources to combat corruption, because it destroys
democracy and the rule of law and leads to the violation of human
rights, destabilisation of markets and economies, a negative impact on
living standards and strengthens organised crime, including terrorism.
He
concluded by stating that this year’s theme, “Breaking the Corruption
Chain" represents a great challenge because no country is unaffected by
this problem. Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals calls for
peace, justice and transparency; this cannot be achieved without
combatting corruption. The UNDP will continue to support all the
concerned institutions working towards these goals.
Six
papers were presented in the workshop on the role of the media, the
social dimension of corruption, the Auditor General Role, freedom of
information and transparency, corruption and public funds and a model
law for tackling corruption. This paper will reviewed by Sudan Vision in
the coming days.
The good news from the workshop was that the National Assembly has approved the Freedom of Information Act.
