Minister: 2016 Budget is One of Social Development - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production

Minister
of Finance and Economic Planning, Badr-Eddin Mahmoud has described the
2016 general budget, approved by the National Assembly today, as the
strongest budget that targets various areas of social development
sectors, stressing that the Ministry will continue to support socially
vulnerable categories.

In
a press conference held in the Friendship Hall in Khartoum on Monday,
the Minister stated the new budget will focus on decreasing the deficit
of the balance of trade to realise economic stability, limiting the
budget deficit at around 1.6% from Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and
increasing revenues.

He
added the Ministry, in areas of external cooperation, will continue
striving to improve and normalise relations with the West in the
interest of the national economy and settlement of debts.

The
Minister indicated the apparent features of the coming budget are
represented in giving concern to economic stability, a continuation of
reform policies and computerisation of the financial system.

He
said spending will continue on defense and security capabilities,
indicating that a "leap" has been scored in military industry a matter
which he describes as an honour.

Mahmoud noted the 2016 budget targets the workforce in defense and security sectors.

He insists this matter should not be subjected to a bidding frenzy,
expressing hope that peace be realised whilst confirming that spending
to further this aim will continue.

The
Minister further added that policies organising the market of hard
currency and rationalisation of demand for hard currencies will go on.
He expects a restoration of equilibrium to the balance of trade will appear during the first quarter of the 2016 fiscal year.
