DUP Calls for a Pro-Poor Strategies and Policies - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production
Two
leading DUP leaders, Dr. Hassan Hilal (Minister of Environment) and Dr.
Hassan Ahmed Al-Jaili (Dean, Industrial Eng, Faculty, Sudan University
for Science and Technology) briefed the media on the paper and clarified
some of the basic components and issues in the paper.
Both
leaders expressed their hope that the Paper after the deliberations and
discussions in the National Dialogue Conference with any additions or
amendments will be adapted as a national economic strategy for the
future.
The
paper main concept is based on three angles; public freedoms and,
democratic governance and, the rule of law and institutions. It stressed
on that Sudan have the huge natural resources and manpower necessary
for a rapid sustainable economic development. But face some challenges
that need to be addressed.
There
are three kinds of unemployment issues that need to be talked;
frictional, structural and seasonal. In addition to the financial and
administrative corruption that is hindering economic and social
development.
The
present two features of the Sudanese economy; traditional and modern
needs policies and programs to facilitate their integration with special
focus on the small farmers and women in rural areas to empower them to
participate more effectively in the economic development of the country.
This in turn will lead to a reduction in the migration from rural to
urban areas and which have increased dramatically during the last
decades and same time enable the urban areas to grow and develop in a
normal sustainable patterns.
The
Paper also called for the need for a just distribution of the national
wealth, the creation of productive cooperatives in particular in the
agricultural sector and rural areas. There is at the same time a need to
revise the imports policy so as not to allow the over-folding of the
market with imported products that are produced locally a policy that
have led to the closure of hundred of factories in the textile, edible
oils and leather skins industries to mention just few of the idle
factories at the present.
Any
genuine economic policy, the Paper stated cannot succeed with the
provision of adequate basic services like basic education, primary
health care, water and sanitation, etc. Investments in these sectors
should be a national priority.
In
general; the paper contained many important issues that need attention
and discussions in both the National Dialogue Forum and the Media.
