The

Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement (SJEM) underscored in a joint
press communique issued on Monday the continuity of dialogue between
them through negotiations and informal meetings for reaching agreement
that will lead to peace in Darfur and contributes to realization of
durable peace in Sudan via the participation in the national dialogue.

In the Name of Alla, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful

Joint Press Statement

"On
a warm invitation from African Union High -level Implementation Panel
(AUHIP) and in the presence of Head of the African Union-United Nations
Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) a meeting between the delegations of the
Government of Sudan and Sudan Liberation Movement (Menawi faction) and
the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement was held at the Ethiopian
Debre Zeit town, during 23-25 of January, 2016.

And
in the opening sitting which was attended by the AUHIP Representative
and Head of UNAMID, the two sides expressed keenness and seriousness to
reach agreement leading to peace in Darfur.

The
two Movements expressed the necessity of immediate halting to the
on-going military operations at Jebel Marra and to work for access of
humanitarian assistance to the affected people as well as postponement
of Darfur referendum.

The
Government, in turn, explained that the on-going military operations at
Jebel Marra is a constitutional duty of the Government in securing and
protecting the people and that the operations are targeting a Movement
which is not a party in the peace process, stressing the keenness that
people shall not be affected by the current military operations as well
as continuity in conducting the Darfur administrative referendum, which
is a constitutional commitment that must be implemented.

The
two sides embarked on studying the document presented by the Mediation
in November, 2015 and that points of difference were determined and a
serious discussion was held for reaching understandings over such
issues.

The
two sides affirmed continuity of dialogue via informal negotiations and
meetings for reaching a deal leading to peace in Darfur and
contributing to realization of durable peace in Sudan through
participation in the national dialogue.

The
two sides seize this opportunity to thank the AUHIP and UNAMID for
their continuous efforts to help the two sides reach a final agreement.
