Sudan Announces Facilities Offered to UNAMID - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production

Sudan’s
Permanent Mission at United Nations in New York Charge de Affaires,
Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan has announced the details of the
facilities presented by Sudan to the UNAMID including 179 permissions
for clearing imports along with 413 entry visas during the past months.

Hamid
said in a comment before the Security Council Monday evening in
response to what was stated in the speech of agent of the Secretary
General for Maintaining Peace Herve Ladsous who accused the government
of suspending the operations of offering visas to the members of the
mission and restricting its movement inside Sudan, that his country has
agreed to open a clearance office for the Mission in Port-Sudan but the
Mission has closed it.

He
elaborated that the government has offered 141 visas out of a total of
151 visas at a percentage of 93%, while in December it offered nearly
272 visas out of a total of 281 at a percentage of 96.7%.

Hamid
noted that the tripartite mechanism which comprises representatives of
Sudan’s government, the African Union and the United Nations which is
concerned with resolving these issues will resume work after one and
half year stop and its next meeting will be on 29 and 30 of this month
on the sidelines of the African Union’s Summit in Addis Ababa.

He
noted that the fighting between the government forces and the rebellion
movements in Darfur has totally receded and the tribal conflicts on
lands and resources have declined while the usual crimes have also
shrunk.

Hamid
said the report of United Nations Secretary General which was
presented on 24 December 2015 on the activity of the joint mission of
the UNAMID has not received any complaints on armed clashes except for
desperate attempts by the faction of Abdulwahid Mohamed Nour east of
Jebel Marra

He
outlined that Abdulwahid has rejected all regional mediations and
violated the unilateral ceasefire announced by the government.

He
further demanded lifting the sanctions imposed on the country as well
as writing off its debts to set out in the projects of reconstruction
after ending the chapter of war.

He
affirmed that the humanitarian conditions have improved due ceasing the
fighting however the government is need for the support of the
international community.

Herve Ladsous has previously presented a briefing on maintaining peace
in Darfur before a morning session of the UNSC in which he said there is
suspension of offering visas to UNAMID members and there

are a number of clashes particularly in Jebel Marra region.

The
Secretary General has tabled before the Council his regular report on
the conditions in Darfur covering a period of three months from
September 25 to December 15

The
report indicates that there is an increase in the number of armed
attacks provoking civilians including the IDPs particularly in North and
West Darfur.
