Sudanese Company and British Chester University Sign Partnership Agreement on Gum Arabic - Rawan For Media Artistic and Production
Director
of the Sudanese Nopec Company, Hashim Al-Digair stressed the importance
of the partnership with the university, which will lead to
establishment of research centers for preparation of studies and
scientific research for the development of gum product, besides
establishment of a number of projects for small-scale producers in the
various states to help farmers, students and researchers to raise their
standard of living.
Al-Digair
revealed the company's contribution in export of more than 15-20% of
the country's exports of gum arabic, besides provision of development
services for a number of areas.
He
added that the agreement will open new horizons for the entry of gum in
health and therapeutic food industries, stressing that the said
university provides all the studies and research that supports gum
arabic role in health and treatment areas, adding that it represents a
natural alternative to synthetic products.
He
revealed the technical support provided by Chester University to local
research institutions, in addition to small-scale farmers training.
Meanwhile,
Supreme Council of Gum Arabic revealed increasing in the Sudan's
exports of gum arabic by 68%, where the total amount of export amounted
to 65 000 tons.
Secretary
General of the Council of Gum Arabic, Dr. Abdul Majid Abdul Gadir
stressed that the increase in the country's exports of gum will open the
doors to international markets.
The
Council praised the Nopec Company for signing the largest contract for a
partnership with the British Chester University in the field of gum
arabic research.
Professor
Tim Wheeler, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Chester said, “The
University has identified the area of food science and innovation as
being one of strategic and significant importance to develop over the
next 10 years, we are very pleased to work in partnership with Nopec
Development and I am delighted to see the work being carried out to
address both the scientific and societal challenges in food security and
sustainability”.
“The
gum industry is now open for all, and in recent years a number of
companies, individuals have used it as means of obtaining hard currency,
but unfortunately with little emphasis on quality, this greatly affect
the reputation of the Sudanese gum, which is considered as the top
quality gum. We highly value the contribution from Nopec to the gum
arabic industry”, Wheeler said.
