The Sudanese Defense Minister has accused foreign militias of involvement in recent attacks on four villages in North Darfur.

He denied that the army had to do with those attacks on local inhabitants.

The
Minister of Defense Awad Bin Ouf explained to the Parliament that
foreign mercenaries clashed with members of Sudanese armed forces,
belonging to Division -6 Land Troops, stationed in the North Darfur
region of Kutum, which left two dead and 4 others injured.

He
said the army was able to confiscate a 4-wheel-drive vehicle equipped
with a tank and other arms. The Minister’s explanation came in response
to questioning by MP Siham Hassan, a representative of Liberation and
Justice Movement regarding allegations about attacks by the army on
civilians in the regions in question.

The
Minister denied any connection of army with the attacks in North
Darfur, which he said were carried out by foreign militias and
mercenaries. Ouf revealed a committee including the ministries of
Defense, Foreign and Interior to follow up on security situation in the
country.

The
MPs on their part called for pay raise for the members of the armed
forces, whose salaries they described as “poor” compared with other
institutions, they reason why, according to them, the army is no longer
