AfDB Resident Representative Briefs Foreign Minister on Bank’s Operations in Sudan - Rawan For Media 



On
Monday 2nd November 2015, the Resident Representative of the African
Development Bank Dr. Abdul Kamara paid a courtesy call on Minister for
Foreign Affairs H.E. Prof. Ibrahim Gandour, following his resumption of
duty as the Bank’s Resident Representative in Sudan. The Resident
Representative briefed the Minister on the Bank’s operations in Sudan,
which he said focus on technical assistance, capacity building and
targeted support to enhance service delivery in key sectors such as the
water, health and education, as well as public financial management. He
highlighted the Bank’s approval of USD 3.2 million in 2013 to replicate
the national household poverty survey as technical assistance to the
preparation of a full Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). He also
noted the Bank’s operation in support of drought resilience and
sustainable livelihoods in selected states in Sudan, indicating that the
Bank’s current operations in Sudan stand at USD 185 million.

On
his part, H.E. Prof. Gandour thanked the Resident Representative for
the comprehensive brief and expressed appreciation of the work of the
African Development Bank in Sudan. He commended the focus of the new
President of the Bank on energy, agriculture, industrialization and
regional integration as timely. The Minister underscored that such areas
of focus are critical to Africa’s development. He thanked the Resident
Representative for the update and appealed to the Bank to intensify its
operational engagement with Sudan.
